A devastating car crash involving the family of University of Wisconsin assistant basketball coach Howard Moore took place over the weekend. Howard’s wife Jennifer, 46, daughter Jaidyn, 9, and the family dog were killed in the accident, while Howard and his 13-year-old son Jerell were left fighting for their lives.
According to PEOPLE, Jaidyn was pronounced dead at the scene and Jennifer was recently taken off life support after suffering from severe injuries related to the crash. Howard, unfortunately, suffered third-degree burns across the left side of his body.
By the grace of God, Howard and Jerell’s situation is looking very hopeful. Jerell was released from the hospital and is being taken care of by other family members. Howard, who had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), was up and walking by Monday.
Howard’s basketball team was first to confirm the fortunate news. Although their health is headed in the right direction, Wisconsin requested continued prayers for Howard and his family as they recover.
“We are pleased to report that Coach Moore’s son, Jerell, has been released from the hospital and is in the care of family,” the team said in a statement. “We are further pleased to know that Coach Moore himself was up and walking at the hospital today. Please continue to keep the entire family in your thoughts and prayers.”
The crash was reportedly at the fault of 23-year-old Samantha Winchester, the woman who was driving the other car involved in the accident. She hit the Moore family’s vehicle around 2:00 AM when she was driving the wrong way. Samantha was pronounced dead at the scene and a toxicology report is pending.
Please join the public in praying for Moore and his son. May God bring them peace, healing, and comfort as the cope with losing two beloved members of their family unit.
