America is still in mourning after the most famous Christian evangelist of our time — Billy Graham — went home to be with Jesus. Graham died at 99 years old on Wednesday, February 21st following years of deteriorating health.
During his lifetime, Graham ministered to millions of people across the globe. He traveled to several different countries to preach God’s Word and touched the hearts of many, including now President Donald Trump.
Graham had a huge impact on the start of Trump’s faith, which is detailed in the book, “The Faith of Donald J. Trump,” reported CBN News. According to CBN’s David Brody, Trump watched Graham’s crusades with his father when he was just a child.
"[Donald Trump] and Fred [Trump] would watch or listen to Billy Graham's sermons — either in the Hour of Decision radio format or the Billy Graham TV Classics that are broadcast on cable," the book said.
Their families became very close over the upcoming years. Trump and wife Melania even attended Graham’s 95th birthday bash, which was also attended by other notable guests including TODAY’s Kathie Lee Gifford.
Graham clearly had a long-lasting impact on Trump’s life. He has carried a strong and open faith throughout his presidency — calling God by name in nearly every presidential speech, surrounding himself with Christian leaders (such as Graham’s son — Franklin Graham), and participating in prayer/Bible study sessions at the White House.
President Trump released a powerful statement following Graham’s death, and additionally, issued a proclamation on his behalf that all U.S. flags be flown at half-staff. Read the full statement here.
