Hurricane Harvey, a “life-threatening storm” that posed a “grave risk” to those in its path, hit the Texas coast near Corpus Christi late Friday evening. The hurricane was expected to hit land at a Category 3, but resulted in a more dangerous condition at a Category 4.

As reported earlier, 130mph winds spread throughout the area along with massive flooding. Additionally, tornadoes, power outages, and fires occurred, destroying several homes and local businesses.

Even though the water is now a major concern considering that floods typically cause more harm and damage than winds, Texans received some hopeful news Saturday afternoon. Hurricane Harvey was downgraded to a tropical storm.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also announced that cleanup crews have already began their hard work. A search and rescue team has also set out in the midst of the storm to ensure the safety of local citizens.
