With Thanksgiving only a day away, Americans are spending the time reflecting on they are thankful for. For 34-year-old veteran Johnny Bobbitt Jr., thankfulness may be exactly what he’s expressing at the moment.
Bobbitt Jr. is a homeless man living on the streets of Philadelphia. Earlier in November, when a commuter ran out of gas, he gave her his last $20 to help her buy some. The woman, 27-year-old Kate McClure, was so moved by his generosity that she pledged to pay him back, reported local news station Fox 32.
She didn’t have money with her at the time, so later, she returned to the area where he’d helped her several times, and she gave him money for cash, clothing and food. But that wasn’t the end.
McClure decided that she’d start a Gofundme.com account. The purpose was to help raise support for Bobbitt Jr., a former Marine.
“Johnny sits on the side of the road every day, holding a sign. He saw me pull over and knew something was wrong,” wrote McClure on the Go Fund Me site. “He told me to get back in the car and lock the doors. A few minutes later, he comes back with a red gas can. Using his last 20 dollars to make sure I could get home safe.”
“I wish that I could do more for this selfless man, who went out of his way just to help me that day,” she continued. “He is such a great guy, and talking to him each time I see him makes me want to help him more and more.”
“[I] truly believe that all Johnny needs is one little break,” she said. “Hopefully with your help I can be the one to give it to him.”
Over 400 persons have contributed so far, and have raised more than $38K in support. Here are some great Bible verses to help prepare you for Thanksgiving. What do you think of this? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
