On Tuesday, the Daily Wire reported that a school resource officer at Dixon High School in Dixon, Illinois, took down a former student. The potential shooting took place where high school seniors were joyfully gathered for graduation practice.
Apparently, the 19-year-old former student was shot after taking out his gun and opening fire. In order to stop the shooter, the school resource officer took out his gun and hit the former student on the shoulder, thereby stopping him from continuing. He was then taken into custody.
According to Sheriff John Simonton, the school resource officer who saved the lives of many students inside of the gym is named Mark Dallas. He confronted the shooter in the high school gym at around 8 am and returned fire after being directly fired upon. Reports claim that, although nobody was killed during the shooting, the suspect did fire multiple rounds. Besides the shooter, nobody was injured from the incident.
"The shooting happened in the gym, where seniors, whose last day of school was Friday, were gathered for graduation practice," said Danny Langloss, the City Administrator. "We're lucky the officer was there. His brave actions saved a lot of lives."
All Dixon schools were immediately placed on lockdown as an investigation was carried out. It was quickly discovered, however, that the suspect had acted alone and that no further threat was posed to students at any Dixon school.
According to Fox News, many of the students believe they are lucky to be alive. They are also incredibly thankful that an armed resource officer was present in the gym.
"We're lucky the officer was there. His brave actions saved a lot of lives," Langloss said. His daughter was in the gymnasium at the time of the incident.
