High School Faces Major Backlash For Doing THIS To A United States Marine

One would expect United States military personnel to be treated with dignity and respect in the country that they fight so hard and sacrifice so much to protect.  It doesn’t take much to honor our troops or to show them the proper respect.

McHenry High School in Chicago had the perfect opportunity to show their support for the military and for one of their own students, but according to NBC the school failed miserably on both counts and is receiving a lot of negative press and backlash.

Megan Howerton, a student who graduated early to honor and serve her country as a United States Marine was not allowed to walk during the graduation ceremony this past Thursday because she was wearing her uniform instead of the typical blue dress.

The school district attempted to justify their disturbing actions by blaming the student for not adhering to their desired dress code. “The district and administration in no way looked to prevent the participation of this graduate or any graduate who has chosen to serve our nation,” the district said in a statement. “Rather, the administration communicated in advance via letter, senior meeting, and practice, all the protocols expected of graduates, including attire.”

I don’t want to go off on a rant, but this is vile and unacceptable behavior by the school district. Blood, sweat, and tears have been shed by millions of Americans who have worn a military uniform. That means something. It means far more than any blue gown graduation costume.

America needs a re-awakening and needs to get it’s priorities straight. No soldier should ever be belittled and dishonored like Howerton was for the sake of pageantry.
