Some absolutely devastating news was reported on Wednesday night out of central Illinois. According to initial reports, at least two people are dead after a crash involving a bus full of high school students.
According to NBC, the crash took place at around 8:30 p.m. near Downs, Illinois. A school bus was carrying a high school basketball team when a semi-truck collided into it.
The semi was reportedly going the wrong way on I-74. It struck the school bus head on, causing an extreme accident.
Initial reports noted that the bus was carrying 11 people. There were eight girls from the Normal Community West High School JV basketball team, at least two adults, and the driver.
One of the adults, 72-year-old Charles Crabtree, was killed in the crash. Additionally, the driver of the truck, a 34-year-old male, was killed upon impact as well.
As of Wednesday night, the eight basketball players were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Thankfully, it appears that they will all make a full recovery. NBC reported that two other adults were taken via helicopter to a larger hospital, though details about conditions have not been revealed.
