Actor and rapper Will Smith claims that former President Barack Obama gave him permission to play the former president in a movie. Apparently, Smith and Obama had discussed the possibility of the actor making a movie out of the former president’s life. Smith spoke of this private conversation to “Late Late Show” host James Corden on Tuesday.

Smith claimed that not only has he been asked to play Obama in a movie, but that he asked the former president for his approval.

“Yeah I talked to Barack about it,” remarked Smith according to The Hill. “He told me that he felt confident that I had the ears for the role.”

In the past, former first lady Michelle Obama remarked that she would pick either Smith or Denzel Washington to play her husband in a movie.

Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, were major supporters of the former president.
