On Saturday, May 19, the world will watch as one of the most anticipated events of the last several years takes place. Prince Harry will be marrying American actress Meghan Markle.
As soon as they announced their engagement last fall, royal fans have been aching to know all of the details. The special event will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Recently, several other details about the big day have emerged. The couple has confirmed details about their wedding cake, flower arrangements, and wedding singers in preparation.
The couple asked a local choir gospel group to sing at the ceremony, while the reception will include a “fun and bouncy” playlist that the couple’s close friends have put together. Additionally, Elton John will reportedly play some classic songs as well.
As far as attire goes, fans have been waiting with extreme anticipation to find out what U.S. citizen Meghan Markle’s wedding dress will look like. At this point, speculations have been running wild about the designer, the shape, the exact color, and the style.
Now, British fashion critic Colin McDowell has revealed what guests are expected to be wearing for the big day. McDowell is a royal fashion expert who has written an entire book on the royal dress code called “A Hundred Years of Royal Style.”
McDowell said, “I really am interested in this [wedding] because it’s breaking all the rules.”
He noted that while the wedding will hold to several traditional details, much of the decisions have been based around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s personalities and style preferences. Because of that, McDowell said that the fashion might be a little less traditional than it has been in the past.
He said, “It’s all about the appearance. Going back in history, it was only the aristocracy who were invited and they knew the code.”
For their big day, however, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have opted to invite several members of the public to the wedding. According to reports, 1,200 additional guests have been nominated to attend the special event. McDowell noted that they might not know the protocol when it comes to royal fashion.
He said that guests will be “dressing down in a very correct way.” He said that women should plan on wearing heels and hats and that men should stick to dress shoes, even if they are more casual overall.
He said that there is one main rule that guests should follow for May 19: “Simplicity is the rule.”
