Many people are tired of hearing about the Russia Investigation. After all, it's been a year, and Special Counsel Mueller hasn't turned up anything that he can use against President Trump.

What he has done has cost American taxpayers millions of dollars. Between October 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018, his investigation cost the American people an additional $4.5 million, reported The Washington Examiner.

According to a new statement of expenditures, $2.78 million of that money went to personnel compensation and benefits. That's bad enough, but it's not it.

Mueller also revealed that an additional $5.476 million was spent separately on the investigation by Justice Department officials. They were not part of Mueller's team. However, he claimed that those expenditures would have happened regardless of his own work.

That's on top of the $6.7 million that Mueller spent between mid-May 2017 and December 2018. That totals up to nearly $17 million has been spent. It's resulted in dozens of criminal charges and five guilty pleas, but nothing pointed at President Trump.

Last year, Mueller was appointed to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election. There were concerns that there were links between the Russian government and the Trump campaign. They were also looking into other crimes, such as obstruction of justice.

President Trump just slammed the investigation. He sent out an angry tweet.

“At what point does this soon to be $20,000,000 Witch Hunt, composed of 13 Angry and Heavily Conflicted Democrats and two people who have worked for Obama for 8 years, STOP! They have found no Collussion with Russia, No Obstruction, but they aren’t looking at the corruption…” he said on Twitter last weekend.

While this is a tiny fraction of the U.S. budget, it's still a significant amount of money that should have remained in the pockets of American taxpayers—or at least went to pay down the debt. What do you think of the amount of money that's been spent?
