Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just announced that they're expecting their first child. The couple is certainly over the moon about the baby, but how does Meghan's mother feel about being a grandmother to a royal baby?
In a statement released by Kensington Palace on Monday, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, 62, shared her exact reaction to the news that her daughter would be having a baby.
“Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild,” the statement read.
Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, will welcome their first child in spring 2019, said Kensington Palace.
The full statement reads as follows: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
A royal source told PEOPLE that Meghan has had her 12-week scan and is “feeling well.”
Meghan is close to her mother Doria, a social worker and yoga instructor. Ragland was the only one of Meghan's family members to attend the May wedding.
Congratulations to Doria on her first grandchild! May God bless Meghan and Harry and their growing family.
