His death came only days after the family confirmed that he would no longer be receiving treatment for his rare form of brain cancer. The public suspected he was entering his final days on earth since this is a step often taken by cancer patients while preparing for their last moments.

Funeral preparations had already begun long before his passing took place over the weekend. A previous report from NBC News revealed some of the guests who were expected to attend the funeral.

According to NBC, former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush were asked to be eulogists at the service. In addition, McCain allegedly wanted Vice President Mike Pence to attend his funeral instead of President Donald Trump.

Following news of McCain's death, other news outlets have since reported that both Obama and Bush have indeed been asked to speak at the Senator's funeral. It is unclear if they have officially accepted the invitation. The Huffington Post was one of several media sources who confirmed the report.
