Arizona Republican Senator John McCain has been battling brain cancer since summer of 2017. The 81-year-old senator has taken some time away from his political duties since his diagnosis and recently underwent emergency surgery to treat an intestinal infection.
Although he appears to be in good health in recent days, friends and family have already begun discussing funeral preparations. A new report from NBC News revealed some of the guests who will attend the funeral when the time comes.
According to NBC, former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will be eulogists at the service. In addition, McCain allegedly wants Vice President Mike Pence to attend instead of President Donald Trump.
This report has not been officially confirmed by McCain or Trump. Although the two have had a rocky political relationship over the years, Trump personally called McCain to send his prayers and best wishes when news first broke about McCain’s cancer battle.
Details are still unfolding and this article will be updated if McCain or Trump respond to the report.
