On Wednesday, October 17, the horrible news was reported that there had been a mass shooting at a college. Outlets are reporting that at least 19 people were killed and at least 50 injured after a gunman opened fire at a college in Crimea.
According to reports, one of the students at the school was the lone gunman. Though the initial reports identified another 18-year-old student as the attacker, investigators are now saying that it was a 22-year-old student who lived in Kerch. After his attack, he reportedly shot and killed himself.
The news of the shooting sent a wave of grief across the world. Now, some of the students who witnessed the attack have described some gruesome details. Additionally, authorities are investigating the possibility of this being a terrorist attack.
One witness said, “I was at a class when I heard shooting on the first floor. We all ran out into the corridor, there were others running and shouting that some guy with a machine gun was randomly shooting everyone in turn.”
Witnesses also said that they heard an explosion along with the gunshots. Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee also said that there was an explosion.
The student added, “Then a strong explosion went off, but thank God, I was already outside and saw our guys being thrown out of the windows by the explosive wave.”
Olga Grebennikova, the college’s head, said that she had been away on business at the time of the shooting. She said that she came back to absolute chaos.
She said, “They blew up the corridor, they ran around, throwing explosives, ran around with automatic rifles, opening classes and killing anybody they could find.”
