Some sad news was confirmed on Monday morning, June 17. Gloria Vanderbilt, a model and American fashion icon, has passed away.

Gloria’s son, Anderson Cooper, revealed her death. The socialite and heiress was 95-years-old at the time of her death.

According to Fox News, Anderson said, “Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman, who loved life, and lived it on her own terms. She was a painter, a writer, and designer but also a remarkable mother,  wife, and friend. She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you, she was the youngest person they knew, the coolest, and most modern. She died this morning, the way she wanted to- at home, surrounded by family and friends.”

Reportedly, Gloria had found out that she had stomach cancer several weeks before her death. She was hospitalized after discovering that her cancer had metastasized.

At the young age of 18-months-old, Gloria inherited half of a $5 million trust fund after her father, Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, passed away. When she was a teenager, she began modeling, soon making a name for herself as a socialite.

She dated (and married) a few notable names throughout Hollywood. At one point, she reportedly even dated Frank Sinatra!

Gloria described her fourth marriage with husband Wyatt Cooper her “only happy marriage.” Together they shared sons Anderson and Carter.

Career-wise, Gloria was always successful. She was a model, a painter, an actor, a designer, and a collagist. Her biggest contribution to the fashion industry was popularizing designer denim.

Several people have posted tributes following her death. Below are some of the posts:

Please be praying for Anderson Cooper and the rest of Gloria's family and friends during this time. Share your prayers here!
