George Clooney recently opened up to the “Sunday Times” about his acting career. He announced that he has no plans to appear back on the big screen anytime soon.
The actor, who is now the father of twins, said that his main priority is no longer acting. He said that a big reason for this change in his life is his age.
He said, “Look, I acted for a long time, and, you know, I’m 56. I’m not the guy that gets the girl anymore. Well, yeah, I shouldn’t be the guy that gets the girl. But, look, if somebody’s got Paul Newman in ‘The Verdict,’ I’d jump. But there aren’t that many like that.”
Clooney went on to say that acting, like any other job, was simply his method to make money. He said that he would use the acting money to “pay the rent.”
Now, however, the actor has sold a tequila company for over a billion dollars. He said, “I don’t need the money.” Clooney sold the company in June, shortly after the birth of his twins, Ella and Alexander.
His latest film, “Suburbicon,” was the worst box-office opening of any film he’s even starred in or directed. But he said that his age is the main reason he is quitting, not his latest upset.
In fact, he said that he is apt to continue with directing. He said that because of his financial situation, he has the ability to make the movies that he wants to make.
Clooney, the outspoken Democrat, also said that he has no political aspirations at the moment. He said that people are constantly trying to get him to go that route.
He said, “I don’t have political aspirations. So many people since Trump was elected have really been pushing on me to get more involved in actual politics, specifically at the highest office.”
For now, Clooney is stepping away from acting and is steering clear from a political run. What do you think about that? Let us know on Facebook. In other news, a former NFL player stabbed was arrested for killing his wife and kidnapping their son.
