California families are mourning the loss of at least three victims from Sunday’s Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting in northern California. The suspect, who has remained unidentified as of 9:45 AM ET, was also shot and killed by police at the festival.
One of the victims is a 6-year-old boy named Steven Romero. The young boy was reportedly at the festival with his mother and grandmother, who were among the 15 injured in the shooting, reported NBC News.
Police updated the public on details of the shooting via a video conference (below). In addition to the number of fatalities and injuries, authorities have confirmed that a second suspect is still at large. It is unclear exactly how the second suspect is involved.
A motive was not immediately released. It is known that the shooting appeared to be “random” as the shooter rapidly opened fire in various directions with no identified target.
