Friends and Fans Offer Condolences After Country Star's 3-Year-Old Dies After Tragic Accident

On Thursday June 6, country singer Granger Smith shared the tragic news that his son had passed away. The "Backroad Song," singer is devastated that his 3-year-old son River Kelly Smith has died in a “tragic accident.”

Friends and fans of the singer and his wife, Amber Smith, took to Twitter to share their condolences. They mourned with the family.

Smith shared the news on social media. He had been scheduled to appear at a concert in Kansas City on Thursday.

Smith revealed the "unthinkable news" on social media. He and his wife, Amber, chose to donate River’s organs “so that other children will be given a second chance at life.”

“Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”

He did not share the situation that led to his death. The couple asked people send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name in lieu of flowers.

His wife Amber also shared a statement on her Instagram. She revealed her sorrow at the loss.

"Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Granger and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life."

She continued, "Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately.
