Franklin Graham stood up for Christians around the country when he defended Vice President Mike Pence against the openly hostile and anti-Christian New York Times after they published an op-ed article that amounts to little more than a blatant attack on Pence and people of faith.
The New York Times article attacking Pence is just the latest in a disturbing direction that the newspaper is heading. Recently, the character of the paper was called into question when they hired Sarah Jeong to a position on their editorial board. Jeong has a history of tweeting out blatant racism towards white people.
Despite the disturbing history of racist remarks, the New York Times admitted they knew Jeong's history on social media and stood by their decision to hire her.
In keeping with the disturbing direction the New York Times editorial department is headed, the paper published an opinion piece in which they viciously attacked Vice President Mike Pence for his Christian faith.
Opinion columnist Frank Bruni referred to the Vice President as a "Holy Terror" before launching into a disturbing and hate-filled rant.
"There are problems with impeaching Donald Trump. A big one is the holy terror waiting in the wings," Bruni wrote. "That would be Mike Pence, who mirrors the boss more than you realize. He’s also self-infatuated. Also a bigot. Also a liar. Also cruel."
Bruni then lumps his personal hatred of Pence together with the fact that Pence is a devout Christian. "To that brimming potpourri he adds two ingredients that Trump doesn’t genuinely possess: the conviction that he’s on a mission from God and a determination to mold the entire nation in the shape of his own faith, a regressive, repressive version of Christianity. Trade Trump for Pence and you go from kleptocracy to theocracy."
Franklin Graham issued a heartfelt response to the anti-Christian article and it is a sober reminder that faith in America is consistently under attack. Franklin points out that the article doesn't just target Pence but in fact targets all Christians by attacking Pence's underlying beliefs.
"The New York Times published a slanderous, vile op-ed piece about Vice President Mike Pence. They were specifically attacking his faith, which really is an attack on all of us who believe in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. I am disappointed that the New York Times would stoop so low. I’ve never seen such hatred poured out against such a good man. Vice President Pence is a dedicated public servant who is doing an exemplary job for our nation. Attacks like this against him and the Lord that He serves should remind us all to keep him in our prayers because he not only represents our country, but all who hold a deep and sincere faith in God. Pray for Vice President Pence, his wife Karen, and their entire family, that God would put a hedge of protection around them."
Please join with Franklin in praying for Vice President Pence, his family and all Christians across the country.
