Over the weekend, Franklin Graham made an exciting announcement. He revealed that his son, Will, would be acting in an upcoming movie where he gets to play the part of his grandfather, the beloved late evangelist Billy Graham.
The movie is “Unbroken: Path to Redemption,” the story of Louis Zamperini. The movie is the completion to the inspiring story of Louis Zamperini as previously shown in “Unbroken.” Both movies were created with inspiration from Laura Hillenbrand’s best-seller novel telling the true story of Zamperini’s life.
Matt Baer, the producer of the original “Unbroken” film, noted that Zamperini’s conversion to faith was not included in the movie, and that some people were upset about that.
He said, “The audience was disappointed this wasn’t included. And I want to say, ‘I know! I know!’ We could have told the story if we had another hour. But studios aren’t making three-hour films.”
Now, “Unbroken: Path to Redemption” will display the rest of Zamperini’s remarkable story, including the impact that Billy Graham had on his life. For the role of Billy, producers asked his own grandson, Will, to play the part.
Franklin Graham wrote, “I’m sure my son Will @TellaGraham never thought he would be in a movie- but he is, and it’s coming out this Friday! He was asked to play the part of his grandfather @BillyGraham in the new movie, ‘Unbroken: Path to Redemption,’ and he did a great job!”
He continued, “‘Unbroken: Path to Redemption’ tells the story of Louis Zamperini coming to faith in Jesus Christ at my father’s 1949 Los Angeles tent Crusade. Louis struggled with heavy drinking and nightmares after being held as a WWII POW in Japan.”
“Though the times were different, this story is so relevant as people today are going through similar struggles, and God can bring healing. Make plans to see @UnbrokenFilm when it releases this Friday, Sept 14," he concluded.
