What is this country coming to? Are we just like the Israelites, who offered up their children to the fires of Molech? Will God leave us to the judgment of our enemies soon, like he did when His people did things He said He never even imagined?
One must wonder, after New York celebrated being able to kill babies on their due date with pink spires lit up in the state. One must wonder, when states like Virginia are considering adopting a bill that allows for the murder of babies in the birth canal, en route to delivery, and even afterward.
Infanticide, many have rightly named it, including Vice President Mike Pence. In a powerful op-ed largely unreported by the media, Pence calls out the evils of his political contemporaries, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Governor (though maybe not for long) Ralph Northam. (Days after his interview defending killing just-born infants, racist photos from college were found of the Governor, and the country is calling for his resignation.)
Franklin Graham, also horrified by the recent abortion laws, urged everyone to read Pence's powerful words. "Everyone needs to read this powerful article by Vice President Mike Pence. He is absolutely right--'these Virginia and New York late-term abortion bills should be a call to action for all Americans.' We should reject this shameless culture of death. It is morally reprehensible. It is evil. It is murder. What will the cost be if we stand silent?" asked Graham.
"God bless Vice President Mike Pence for his unshakable stand for life and the values that make America strong," ended Graham's post.
After describing Governor Northam's gruesome defense of killing a just-born child, Pence wrote, "There’s another word for this: infanticide. And it is morally reprehensible and evil. Virginia’s bill comes just a week after the New York state senate was filled with cheers following the passage of a similar law. Governor Andrew Cuomo declared it 'a historic victory for . . . our progressive values' and directed pink lights to shine on landmarks throughout the state, including One World Trade Center.
"This shameless embrace of a culture of death is startling to every American who cherishes life," continued Pence. "Not too long ago, the Democratic party’s stated position was that abortion should be 'safe, legal, and rare.' It was this widespread rejection of late-term abortion that led a large bipartisan majority in Congress to pass the partial-birth-abortion ban in 2003. But now look at how far the Democratic party has fallen."
"To support, let alone cheer, late-term abortions not only marks a disturbing step backward by so-called 'progressives' — it also violates every demand of human decency. As modern science has moved the point of viability ever earlier in pregnancy, most Americans have agreed that a child who can survive outside the womb deserves a chance at life. Only a handful of countries, including China and North Korea, allow late-term abortions," wrote Pence, comparing Democrats to the authoritarian regime of Kim Jong-un.
But Pence gave pro-life Americans a much-needed dose of hope. Beginning with sharing his pride in serving under pro-life President Trump, Pence shared that the vicious views of the anti-life Democratic leaders are not normative of the American people: "For my part, I couldn’t be more proud to serve as vice president to the most pro-life president in American history. From his first week in office, President Trump has been a tireless champion of life. He reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, ensuring that our foreign-aid dollars don’t go to groups that promote or perform abortions abroad. He withdrew the United States from the United Nations Population Fund to prevent our tax dollars from supporting forced sterilization and abortion overseas. And he signed a law to empower states to withhold federal funding from abortion providers — and defund Planned Parenthood.
"But the commitment to life extends further than our administration. Beyond the White House, state leaders are taking action to protect the unborn. They are encouraging parents to choose life by requiring brief waiting periods, setting ultrasound and other informed-consent standards, and prohibiting abortions based solely on a child’s sex, race, or disability — a measure I was proud to sign into law as governor of Indiana.
"And thanks to the efforts of millions of compassionate and caring Americans across the country, we are changing minds and turning hearts to embrace life as never before. Fewer abortions are being performed than ever recorded — a decrease of more than 50 percent since the 1980s. This is a true cause for celebration," encouraged Pence.
The breath of fresh air brought by the reminder that most Americans are not cold-hearted and in support of the murder of innocent babies is reassuring. Many Americans, this writer included, have been quite depressed after the news of Cuomo's celebration of killing fully-formed babies. But we must remember that God will indeed judge and that we must pray and fight for the unborn and for God's creation to be protected.
A commenter on Graham's post put it clearly in perspective. Betty McWilliams Smith Davis: "When the heart stops beating the person is considered dead, so when the heart starts beating the person should be considered alive. Therefore taking any life with a heartbeat should be considered murder."
