Over the last couple of weeks, officials have been keeping a close watch on Hurricane Florence. The storm fluctuated as it approached the East Coast, first being categorized as a level 4, moving down to a level 2, and then through the same cycle again.
Now, the storm has been downgraded to a Category 1. However, officials noted that the category only indicates the strength of the wind and that the most dangerous element of Florence will be the vast amount of rain and “potentially life-threatening flooding” that will sweep through the Carolinas and Virginia.
According to recent reports, around 10 million people are in the path of the storm and were advised to evacuate or take extreme precaution. However, many opted to stay in their homes to ride out the storm.
On Thursday, Franklin Graham took to social media to talk about the storm and to confirm that his organization, Samaritan’s Purse, will be on the ground assisting in whatever way they can after Florence wreaks havoc.
Graham wrote, “Samaritan’s Purse will respond after Hurricane Florence. Many people have been watching this storm. It’s huge, and it looks like it’s going to take a lot of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia, and then it’s gonna come inland.”
He continued, “So if you can get out of the way please get out of the way. Don’t stay there! These things are dangerous. Samaritan’s Purse will come to the hardest hit areas and we’ll come in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We’ll have an army of volunteers in orange shirts working in various communities helping people get back on their feet again.”
Finally, Graham asked for everyone’s participation in their efforts. He said, “We need your prayers, the people in the path of the storm need your prayers, as we go in Jesus name.”
