One of the most famous burger restaurants in the world is in deep trouble. Burger King is apologizing to patrons after a marketing promotion in Russia went viral.
On a Russian social media site, Burger King of Russia promised a lifetime supply of Whoppers and $47,000 to any woman who becomes pregnant by a member of the Russian national soccer team. The said the prize would be a "reward" for continuing to carry on the good genes of the team.
"The offer was extended to 'girls who manage to get the best football genes' and 'lay down the success of the Russian national football team', the indication is that the offspring produced by such liaisons would grow up to be soccer stars. 'It is a reward for the girls who would get pregnant from the international football superstars,' the message continued," reported USA Today.
Customers did not think the offer was funny at all. Burger King quickly pulled down the advertisement and said it was offensive.
"As soon as it was brought to our attention, we had it removed. It certainly does not reflect our brand or our values and we are taking steps to ensure this type of activity does not happen again," said Burger Kind in a recently released statement.
Now, Franklin Graham is weighing in on the controversy! We agree with Franklin: there is no reward for promoting sin!
"A lifetime supply of #Whoppers won’t come close to paying the price of promoting sin. I’m glad @BurgerKing has publicly apologized, but I think they need to take a good look at who is at the helm of their advertising. This is grossly wrong on all levels," wrote Franklin on Twitter.
