Due to an infection that has spread to his blood, former president George H.W. Bush, 93, was hospitalized Sunday, just a few days after his wife, Barbara, passed away at age 92, according to Fox News.
"President Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood," said Jim McGrath, a Bush spokesman, in a statement.
"He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant,” the statement said.
Bush was hospitalized last April with a “mild case of pneumonia, and earlier in 2017, he was hospitalized for 16 days, also due to pneumonia. Both Barbara and George were hospitalized around the same time – in early 2017 – due to bronchitis.
Barbara Bush died Tuesday, not long after her family announced that she was in failing health.
