A former NFL Pro Bowl star has just reported some sad news. Vandals have destroyed thousands of dollars worth of trees after causing mayhem to an orchard that his family owns.
The news was horrible depressing. Jeremy Newberry took to social media to share the information and to also let people know that a police report has been filed at this time.
"Jeremy Newberry, who played center for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers, told the San Francisco Chronicle he planted more than 4,000 trees on his family’s orchard in October and, when he went to work Wednesday, about half of them had been destroyed," reported Fox.
Newberry was also shocked at the amount of destruction. Based on how many trees were ruined, Newberry thinks it would have taken the vandals hours to complete the horrible act. It's truly hard to imagine people purposefully doing this to his family.
“It would take two grown men, literally, and probably six or seven hours, to tear up those trees,” Newberry told the Chronicle. “Just the sheer amount of time it takes to do this. It was a heartbreak.”
The image is being estimated at around $30,000. The family had not been living on the property at the time the vandals came through. Due to this reason, and the fact that security devices had yet to be installed, there are relatively few leads in the case.
“It’s crazy that I even have to do that,” Newberry said. “It’s disheartening, but we’re going to have to continue to move forward and not let it discourage us.”
Newberry plans to live on the property in a trailer and keep watch for the future. The trees are expected to be replanted this spring. Please join us in praying over this horrible situation.
