Melania Trump just made an unprecedented move. The first lady is demanding the resignation of a top security official.
Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham issue a statement on Tuesday. In it, Trump publicly pushed for the exit of deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel.
"It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that (Ricardel) no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House," the first lady's communications director Stephanie Grisham said in a statement on Tuesday.
This is a clear rebuke of a senior official in President Trump's administration, Ricardel works as second to national security adviser John Bolton.
Spokespeople for the National Security Council did not respond to requests for comment.
The rebuke comes after reports surfaced that It came after reports surfaced that Ricardel fought with members of the first lady's staff over her trip to Africa.
"One person familiar with the matter said Ricardel quarreled with the first lady's staff over seating on the plane and use of National Security Council resources," said CNN.
Ricardel has not responded to the demand yet. It's not clear if she will resign the position she's held for only a couple of months.
This isn't the first stunning statement that Melania has issued this week. She also responded with fire to Michelle Obama's recent criticism of her decision to not ask for Obama's advice on how to be the first lady.
