A famous music artist is heading to prison after a judge sentenced him to two to four years behind bars. Meek Mill, a rapper, has officially entered the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution in Montgomery County.
Mill reported to prison on Wednesday. It was just two days after a judge handed down the harsh sentence for a probation violation from separate incidents earlier in the year.
Originally, Mill was on probation for a 2008 gun and drug case by getting arrested twice this year. In that instance, he was in jail for 8 months and was ordered to remain on probation for five years.
Mill was sentenced to prison after two arrests. Although the charges were dropped, the judge still ordered that the arrests violated his probation. He was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge and again for reckless endangerment while driving.
“We fully intend to right this terrible wrong and bring him home,” Mill’s lawyer, Brian McMonagle said.
Many celebrities have reached out to voice their support for Mill. A petition has even been started to reevaluate his sentencing. Even Jay-Z has voiced support for Mill and criticized the legal system.
“Meek Mill has been a powerful voice in the community for our youth,” the petition states. “He has made positive contributions to many communities and programs, dedicating time and money to the cultivation of our youth and neighborhoods; even through his own adversities. He has continued to be dedicated and shown an immaculate work ethic, even at times when the system tried to prevent him from being able to tour, which is how he makes a living,” according to People.
