Tab was always known for playing the handsome guy with some California-surfer looks. He had roles in "Damn Yankees" and "The Burning Hills," and was also famous for remaining closeted during Hollywood's Golden Age.
Tab's memoir became an award-winning documentary in 2015 -- and J.J. Abrams is making a film, "Tab & Tony," about his life with Perkins, reported TMZ.
His official Facebook page only asked for prayers. However, officials have just released information about his death. It is the first tie they have said what caused him to pass away.
"According to the doc -- obtained by TMZ --, Tab died from cardiogenic shock ... which is when the blood suddenly can't pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. Another contributing factor to his death was a massive pulmonary embolism. The doc also says he had prostate cancer," wrote TMZ.
"Tab Hunter was a role model and I’m so sorry to hear he passed away. Rest in power brother," wrote one user on Twitter.
