Earlier this week, Hurricane Maria became the first Category 4 storm in over 80 years to directly hit the island of Puerto Rico. Since making landfall, 100% of the island has been without power.
On Thursday, Hollywood celebrity Jennifer Lopez (J. Lo) posted a sad video on her Instagram account. The actress revealed that she still has not been able to get in touch with her family on the island.
The 48-year old actress and singer who was born to Puerto Rican parents made a plead for all of her fans to help. She said that the "devastation is beyond belief."
Lopez said, "What's foremost in my mind and many others, is trying to figure out the best way to help. Our island of Puerto Rico has been hit by the two most devastating hurricanes we've ever seen Irma and Maria. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help."
The star continued on, asking for specific support. She said, "I urge you to support and donate to the efforts (UnitedforPuertoRico.com) of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló. Together we can help rebuild our island and the Caribbean."
Below is J. Lo's video:
Marc Anthony, Jennifer's ex-husband, asked people to contribute to the same organization.
He said, "During these past weeks, my island has faced the wrath of two historic hurricanes. It was Hurricane Irma and now Hurricane Maria as we all know, which has caused great devastation in Puerto Rico and the broader Caribbean. None the less, Puerto Rico became a haven for those in need from our neighboring islands, that says a lot about us. But today, Puerto Rico needs your help."
Due to the power outage, most Puerto Rican citizens have not been able to contact friends and family to ensure them of their safety. We are still unaware of the total amount of damage on the island.
Please continue praying for everyone affected by Hurricane Maria, both those on the island and family members waiting to hear from their loved ones. Share your prayers with us on Facebook.
