Every year, Disneyland has a special Candlelight Ceremony. This event is filled with holiday cheer including several carols and a living Christmas tree.
The tradition has been a part of the park since the 1950s. It takes place on the first weekend of December each year. Not only is the tradition filled with sentimental value, it is being praised for something much more prevalent: the ceremony focuses on the very first Christmas.
SGV Tribune said, "The annual ceremony tells the story of the first Christmas in song and story, and has been a part of the holiday season at Disneyland since the earliest days of the theme park in the 1950s."
This year, the ceremony included a live, 50-piece orchestra and almost 600 voices. The choir sang a variety of Christmas classics and consisted of people from surrounding schools and churches.
The report said, "The ceremony started with the choir, holding battery-powered candles, hence the name, walking down Main Street U.S.A. while singing Christmas carols. When they reached Town Square, they climbed the steps in front of the Main Street train station for the Disneyland Railroad and up onto a variety of risers, including a section where they formed a 'Living Christmas Tree.'"
After, famous actor Chris Hemsworth took the stage to participate in a longstanding tradition in the ceremony. Hemsworth read the Christmas story from the gospel of Luke.
Though Jesus really is the reason for the season, it is not very common in today's politically correct climate to have a public reading of scripture. Below is the "Thor" actor's reading:
Last week, President Trump unashamedly talked about the true meaning of Christmas: God's love on display for the world to see. This year, the president has promised that Christ is being brought back to the central focus of Christmas.
Thankfully, Disneyland has kept up this special tradition of reading scripture during their Christmas ceremony for many decades. What do you think about it? In other recent news, Kathie Lee Gifford is facing major backlash after her comments about Matt Lauer.
