Family Offers Sad Update on Iowa Girl Who Has Been Missing Over a Month

August 20, 2018Aug 20, 2018

It's been over a month since college student Mollie Tibbetts disappeared from her small Iowa town. The 20-year-old young woman has captivated the heart of the nation, even drawing the attention of VP Pence and President Trump.

Now, her father has shared some disheartening news. He told an ABC affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that police advised him to return home.

Mollie's parents are divorced, and her father will be heading home to California. Rob, who lives in Fresno and works in the Bay Area, traveled to Iowa soon after his daughter was reported missing.

"Very reluctantly, I'm being told I sort of need to do this," Rob told KCRG-TV9. "We've called this sort of a halftime, a break."

Tibbetts disappeared after reportedly going for a jog. While police and her family have worked tirelessly to find the young woman, who was described by everyone as kind and sweet, they have appeared to have few leads.

Law enforcement recommended that the family “return to their day-to-day lives and leave them in charge of the case."

Authorities have reportedly received more than 2,300 tips since Mollie was reported missing. The Crime Stoppers reward for her return has exceeded $360,000. Authorities also have a website where they encourage people to submit information on the case. Anyone with information can also call (800) 452-1111.

Previously, Rob shared his theory about what happened to Mollie. He said he thinks his daughter is alive and with someone she trusted.

“The bottom line is somebody knows something," he previously said in a Fox News interview.

Dalton Jack, Mollie's long-term boyfriend, has been ruled out as a possible suspect by the police. According to her Instagram, they had been together for 2-and-a-half years in April.

Please pray that Mollie is found safely. This is a terrible tragedy for her family and for the small Iowa town where she lives. It is sad news that law enforcement is encouraging her family to go back to their day-to-day lives; it seems to imply that they are losing hope.
