In May of 2017, former FBI Director James Comey was fired by President Donald Trump for reportedly not living up to professional expectations. However, multiple sources believed that he was actually let go in relation to the Russia investigation.

Since the firing, tensions have continued to rise between Trump and Comey.

On Saturday, March 17th, President Trump took to Twitter shortly after the recent firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. In a series of tweets, Trump slammed both Comey and McCabe.

Trump first stated, “Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI - A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!”

The President assured there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, and additionally said, “there was tremendous leaking, laying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State.” According to Trump, Comey was aware of all of this corruption.

Shortly after President Trump’s Saturday tweets, Comey responded via social media.

“Mr. President, the American people will hear my story very soon. And they can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not,” Comey tweeted.
