The family of NBA star Kevin Durant, who currently plays for the Golden State Warriors, is mourning a great loss. One of Durant’s very close family friends, Cliff Dixon, was shot and killed at only 32 years old.

Dixon, who is also the former boyfriend of American model/television personality Erica Mena from “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” was reportedly murdered on his 32nd birthday celebration outside of a local nightclub. The shooting occurred around 1:00 AM on Thursday morning in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to TMZ, Dixon was rushed to a local hospital following the shooting, where he was pronounced dead. It is unclear if Dixon was the target.

Dixon started off as just a childhood friend of Durant, who eventually grew to be considered his “adopted brother.” They remained close all the way through adulthood.

Wanda Durant, Mr. Durant’s mother, released an official statement expressing their love and condolences to Dixon’s family.

“The Durant family extends our deepest condolences & prayers to Cliff’s mother, siblings, family & friends,” she said. “Our family was an extension of his & we shared wonderful memories. His transition is an incredible loss for all of us who loved him, he will be missed dearly. RIP.”

Durant will still play Thursday night’s game on March 21, 2019, amidst the tragic news, reported the SF Chronicle. He has not yet released a personal response to his friend’s passing.

As of Thursday afternoon, the gunman has not been identified. Details are still emerging and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Please pray for Dixon’s family during this difficult time! May God bring them peace and comfort. In trending news, a health update was released on a famous rock and roll icon who recently suffered a stroke.
