TV’s biggest night has been hosted by many notable Hollywood names over the years.
Stephen ColbertHe is a 45 time Emmy nominee and a 10 times winner. However, he also has hosting experience. He was chosen to host the 2017 69th annual ceremony.
The Colbert Report alum opened it with a big musical number. He recruited stars such as Anthony Anderson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chance the Rapper Allison JanneyTo participate.
Over the years, comedians such as Colbert have been successful hosting the show. Cast members and alum have been cast members in the past. Saturday Night Live have stepped up to the plate. Eddie MurphyJoan Rivers, a comedian from the same year, hosted the show. Jimmy FallonThe event was hosted by the University of Toronto in 2010. Seth MeyersIn 2014, the Emmys were also held in Atlanta.
The Emmys continued their tradition of honoring women in 2018, with the 2018 edition. SNL hosts — but this time not without controversy. The 2018 ceremony was hosted by Colin Jost, Michael Che, and Colin Jost. Jost caused controversy by slamming the awards shows a month before the main event.

Jost then made a dig at titles that have won at past ceremonies, adding, “And remember when movies like Gladiator won best picture? Why can’t good, fun things win and not just good artsy things? They’re both good, and the fun ones are sometimes a lot harder to make.”
Despite the fact that the 2019 ceremony was a failure, Jimmy KimmelDespite the COVID-19 crisis still in progress, Kimmel was asked to assume the role of 2020 event organizer. “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this,” Kimmel said in June 2020, per Variety. “But we are doing it and I am hosting it.”
Prior to 2020, Jimmy Kimmel Live!Star hosted the Emmys in 2012, and 2016 respectively. Kimmel hosted Academy Awards in 2017 & 2018.
