If you are not familiar with the Duggar's, they are a large family that prizes leading godly lives and having as many kids as God gives them. That is so against the norm in today's world, where we just heard about the legalization of due-date abortions in New York.
In Virginia, we even heard the "moderate" Governor Ralph Northam, a pediatrician, defend a bill that allows babies to die after delivery, if unwanted. It's heinous. So the deep grief that newlyweds Josiah and Lauren Duggar recently shared about their miscarriage in October is especially poignant.
This is the first people have heard of the tragic loss, as shared by PEOPLE in a sneak peak preview of the new season of Duggar's show on TLC, "Counting On."
“Lauren and I were actually preparing for a trip to go to a friend’s wedding,” says Josiah, 22. “She started feeling really sick and started noticing some different things. Mrs. Swanson was there, so she was able to help her out. I didn’t know exactly what was going on.”
“I wasn’t feeling well,” shares Lauren,19, beginning to cry. “I was cramping really, really bad, which was quite strange because I normally don’t. I was thinking maybe I had something that had gluten in it. It was late at night and I went to use the restroom and there was the baby. Gone. I couldn’t believe it and I was hoping it wasn’t true.”
The two got engaged in March and married in June of 2018. “We are overjoyed to begin this new phase of our lives together,” Josiah said in an interview. “Through the years our families’ friendship has allowed us to get to know one another as friends. I can definitely say I have found a great friend … even better than I could have hoped for or imagined.”
He went on about his love for Lauren: “I so appreciate Lauren’s Christ like character and tender heart toward others. She bring sunshine into the room and encourages everyone around her. It’s always stood out to me that in every situation, she looks for the one who appears to be sad or lonely and quickly can brighten their day by sharing words of hope, an encouraging scripture, a prayer or even a simple smile with them.”
You can see Lauren's heart as she expresses her grief for losing her "baby." So many would not call a newly-conceived infant a "baby," instead wanting to sterilize the humanity by calling him or her a "fetus." But the young Duggar couple is an example to America that every life given, no matter for how short a time, is a baby created by God.
We pray God helps them heal from this loss and gives them many more children. Do you agree? Post your prayers for the couple in the comments! Thank you so much.
