Former "Ace of Cakes" star Chef Duff Goldman tied the knot over the weekend. Unsurprisingly, his guests feasted on some pretty amazing cakes.
The pastry chef and his girlfriend of three years Johnna Colbry had their unique wedding at the Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles on Saturday, PEOPLE confirmed. The 44-year-old chef and his 25-year-old fiancée were joined by 250 of their closest friends and family.
They said their vows under the T-rex exhibit. Their reception took place in the Museum's Hall of North American Mammals. The reception had a “romantic yet tropical” vibe with palms and dark roses used throughout the wedding, according to the couple. Colbry compared it to a “Gatsby party” because of the “random elements” like a petting zoo that were incorporated.
Duff is starring in a new Food Network show "Buddy vs. Duff," and his desserts at his wedding were truly showstopping. He had three cakes.
The first cake was an underwater-themed sweet hanging from the ceiling. It was decorated with sugar sea glass, bubbles, and leafy sea dragons.
“I don’t know how Johnna feels about me likening her to a leafy sea dragon but they are beautiful and graceful and they’re gentle and they’re sweet and so is Johnna,” said Goldman.
Colbry received a traditional white wedding cake. The third cake, which was for Goldman, was particularly unique—he had a "meat cake."
“The bottom tier is meatballs, the second tier is meatloaf, third tier is lamb shawarma, the top tier is scrapple,” he said. “Then it’s iced in mashed potatoes, with bacon roses and then we have a chocolate fountain that we put gravy in.”
The couple also served a main course, which included street tacos, a baked potato bar, barbecue, and pizza. There was also a pretzel bar where guests could "tie the knot."
“We wanted fun food that people actually really want to eat,” said Goldman. “No airline chicken breast and roasted sweet potatoes.”
Immediately following their wedding, the new Mr. and Mrs. Goldman left for the first of two honeymoons. When they return, Goldman will continue filming for a few weeks before they leave for a two-month vacation around the world.
“We’re gonna go everywhere: Asia, North Africa, the Middle East—all over the place,” he added.
Goldman spontaneously proposed to his beautiful girlfriend—now wife—last spring. He didn't even have a ring. Instead, he proposed with butcher’s twine. He shared a photo to announce the engagement, showing the twine tied on her finger.
The 43-year-old revealed at the time he'd been going about his regular routine when he realized he was “absolutely in love” with the 24-year-old
“I woke up yesterday and it felt like any other day. Sun was shining, birds was chirping. I made some coffee, ate a little breakfast, and got in the shower,” he wrote in the caption of the photo.
“I was shaving my head when like a mule kick to the heart I realized that I am absolutely in love with Johnna ( @letushear ) and I can’t imagine living another day without her in my life,” he continued. “She is kind, funny, smart, beautiful, cool, wise, and sexy. She’s a tempest of feeling.”
It was so clear to him that he was in love with Johnna that he couldn't wait until he had a ring to propose.
“I didn’t plan this out, it just happened and it was so glaringly obvious that I couldn’t have stopped it if I wanted to. I asked her to marry me. She said yes.”
Goldman continued in the caption, “I cannot imagine a state of happiness that is more intense than whatever I’m feeling right now. My heart just might burst. I love you muffin. I love every scar. I love the way you smell. I’m sorry I didn’t have a real ring. I hope you don’t mind butcher’s twine, I am a chef, after all.”
Colbry also shared the photo on social media along with her own caption.
“Officially my ride or die. My forever muffin. My buffalo. I’m so crazy about you @duffgoldman and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life going on adventures with you!” she wrote.
The couple had been dating since 2016. Congratulations to the couple!
