It has been reported that NBC News has fired one of its leading news anchors, Matt Lauer, who is co-host of "Today." This news comes in the aftermath of sexual misbehavior allegations, according to the New York Times. The news was first announced by co-host Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on Wednesday morning.
“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer,” claimed NBC President Andrew Lack, who took the allegations very seriously.
These allegations, claimed Lauer, "represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment."
He continued, “While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
Many who work at NBC, including co-host Savannah Guthrie, are very saddened by the information and are mourning the loss of their friend and co-host. The New York Times writes that when Savannah Guthrie announced the news on "Today" on Wednesday morning, she seemed to be on the verge of tears. And did Al Roker, who had only learned the news shortly before going on air, who seemed visibly shaken while giving his weather report.
"All we can say is we are heartbroken; I'm heartbroken," said Guthrie.
On the one hand, she considered Leaur a "dear, dear friend." On the other hand, she considers the colleague who came forward to tell her story "brave."
The allegation left the co-host to ask, "“How do you reconcile your love for someone with the revelation that they have behaved badly?”
President Trump, however, seems to be less upset than Lauer's co-hosts.
“Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for ‘inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.’ But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News,” Trump tweeted. “Check out Andy Lack’s past!”
President Trump wasted no time blasting his former employers at NBC after the bombshell announcement that the network, who had once employed him when he starred on "The Apprentice," has fired Lauer.
Andy Lack has stayed quiet since NBC came under fire for spiking Ronan Farrow's report that would have outed Harvey Weinstein as a sexual predator months before the New York Times broke the news. Now it appears that sexual misbehavior was also a major issue inside of the company.
Fox News writes that Lack and Lauer are very close and that there seems to have been rumors circulating in the media industry about various publications working on a bombshell story detailing Lauer's misconduct.
