A tragic story recently emerged out of Phoenix, Arizona. Dasia Patterson, 29, and two of her daughters, 7-year-old Mayan Smith and 5-year-old Nasha Smith, were tragically killed in a domestic violence incident.
According to 12 News, the mom of three’s longtime boyfriend, Austin Smith, shot Patterson and her two young girls. Patterson’s youngest child, a 3-year-old girl whose name was not immediately released to the public, was hiding under the bed at the time of the incident. By the grace of God, she survived.
Reports did not specify if Mr. Smith is the children’s biological father, but they do all have the same last name as him. He was taken into custody and is facing numerous murder charges.
Smith allegedly thought that Patterson was having an affair with his brother. In a bizarre statement, he said “God told him” to shoot and kill his family.
Following the tragic shooting, Patterson’s mother, Cynthia, spoke to the media. She requested prayers and assured that her top priority is being reunited with her 3-year-old granddaughter who survived the shooting.
“I just don’t understand why this happened. We just need prayer and support from everyone to get through this,” Cynthia said.
“As we try to process our profound grief, our focus is on the welfare of her sole surviving 3-year-old daughter,” she added. “She just lost her mother and sisters, and we want nothing more than for her to be with her family right now.”
Please keep this family in your prayers as they deal with these difficult losses. May God use their story to show His goodness.
