A doctor is accused of killing patients by deliberately poisoning them. His goal was to bring them back so that he could show off his skill as a doctor.

At least two of those patients died. The doctor, anaesthesiologist Frederic Pechier, is also being questioned in connection with over 50 other patients.

This is not the first time that he's been charged with poisonings. The doctor was already charged with poisoning seven patients, who went into cardiac arrest while he was working at two private clinics in Besancon, eastern France. These cases happened from 2008 to 2017.

Two of the patients died while the others were revived. Investigators later found traces of potassium in their bloodstreams that was five times the legal dose.

Pechier, who is a father of three, denies the accusations.

“I have been accused of odious crimes that I didn’t commit,” he said after he was charged.

In January 2019, four of his deceased former patients were exhumed. Their bodies were tested for high traces of potassium.

Prosecutors have also alleged that he may have tampered with his colleague’s anesthesia to create emergencies. In those cases, he looked like the genius who intervened to impress his coworkers.

He was considered to be a brilliant anaesthesiologist among his peers. Now, he's been banned from working in medicine.

Pechier has been released pending trial.
