A major recall has just been issued after multiple salmonella outbreaks. More than 200 million eggs have now been recalled after the outbreak, which has been traced back to a farm in North Carolina.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the eggs were distributed in nine states. Those states include Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The now-recalled eggs are believed to be connected to the recent outbreak of salmonella infections. Currently, there have been 22 reported cases of people contracting the illness.

The FDA's investigation into this situation has led them to an egg farm in Hyde County, North Carolina, which is owned by Rose Acre Farms. Egg distribution has now been put on hold and over 206 million eggs have been recalled.1

According to the New York Times, "Eggs from the North Carolina farm were sold to restaurants and in supermarkets under multiple brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value (sold at Walmart), Nelms and Sunshine Farms."

Affected eggs will be in cartons labeled with plant number P-1065. The packing dates will range from 011 through 102. Rose Acre Farms has been in full cooperation with the FDA as they work through to resolve this issue.

Now, a disgusting reason has just been revealed for the massive recall. According to reports, the eggs were contaminated by rodent infestation and filth.

"An inspection report released Thursday by the US Food and Drug Administration indicates that the North Carolina farm linked to a multistate outbreak of Salmonella from contaminated eggs had an ongoing rodent infestation, unsanitary conditions and poor employee practices," according to Fox.
