Over the weekend, a great tragedy struck the state of Louisiana. As previously reported, 21-year-old Dakota Theriot went on a nightmare shooting spree, where he shot and killed both of his parents at their house after murdering his girlfriend and two of her family members at a separate location.

The victims have been identified as 50-year-olds Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, as well as 20-year-old Summer Ernest, Dakota’s girlfriend; 17-year-old Tanner Ernest, her younger brother; and 43-year-old Billy Ernest, her father.

The killings sparked a nationwide manhunt for Dakota, which eventually led to his discovery at a Virginia residence on Sunday. Dakota reportedly pulled up inside of a vehicle, pointing a gun out of the window before he finally surrendered to authorities.

He was taken into custody, immediately facing several charges. According to CNN, the shooter is expected to be charged with five counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, illegal usage of a weapon, and theft of a murder vehicle.

Prior to this domestic violence incident, Dakota only had a drug paraphernalia possession charge. Other than that, there were no indications that he would go on a shooting rampage.

Although a motive is still unclear as of Monday, January 28th, additional details have been released. It is known that Dakota briefly lived with Summer and her family for a few weeks. However, he was reportedly instructed to “leave the residence and never return” just days before the shooting, reported CNN.

Dakota has his first court appearance on Friday, February 1st. Please check back for updates soon.
