Democrats Pressure High Profile Man to Run as a Democrat in 2018

Democrats are pressuring a high profile politician to officially join their ranks in 2018, possibly in preparation for the 2020 election. The move is making headlines among political sites.

According to the report, Democrats are pressing Bernie Sanders to officially declare himself as a Democrat and run with them in 2018. They also realize he has stayed relevant in the political world among young progressives and sees him as a viable option in 2020.

Sanders had leaned more towards independents and grassroots type ideals in the past. He had previously not declared himself as a Democrat.

“The resolution calls for Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Angus King (I-Maine) to run as Democrats when they run for reelection in 2018 — when they’re both expected to win — and ‘beyond,’” according to The Hill.

Just days after Hillary Clinton lost the election in 2016, Democrats moved Sanders into leadership roles within the party. They are trying to fully embrace him and his supporters in hopes to upset President Trump.

“If Sanders plans on being part of the Democratic Party family in 2020, let’s ask him to be part of our family in 2018,” Mulholland told The Hill. “I can’t believe our team, the DNC, is not in favor of people running as Democrats.”
