A Democrat leader tried to take a cheap shot at President Trump’s White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday, but his tasteless attack missed his target by about 700 miles, leaving him feeling really, really foolish.
According to The Hill, Jim Cooper, the chairman of the Democratic Coalition Against Trump, posted a photo on Twitter of what he thought was a young Huckabee Sanders:
“Sarah Huckabee Sanders even looked habitually pissed when she was a teenager!” he wrote above the photo of the teen girl. “I guess having @GovMikeHuckabee as your dad does that to you.”
But there was one big problem. The photo is not of Huckabee Sanders. It’s actually a screengrab of actress Busy Phillip’s playing her character in the early 2000s cult classic TV show “Freaks and Geeks, ” which also featured breakout roles for actors James Franco and Jason Segel. As little as they looked like each other back then, Phillips and Sanders do not even bear a resemblance to each other now.
Phillips, who is not a fan of Huckabee Sanders at all, was furious at Cooper’s tweet and let him have it on Twitter. In a series of outraged tweets we won’t feature here because of their crude language, Phillips, who has a large social media fanbase, accused Cooper of being a purveyor of fake news, said she looks nothing like Huckabee Sanders, and added that she’ll never get over this.
Cooper apologized late Thursday night and deleted his original tweet, but not before it went viral.
Huckabee Sanders, who takes her role of addressing combative reporters with great seriousness, is often mocked for her physical appearance by liberals, who otherwise claim to be tolerant and nonjudgmental. In other news, according to Independent Journal Review, the Democratic Coalition just filed an ethics complaint against Huckabee Sanders for suggesting ESPN fire host Jemele Hill for calling Trump a white supremacist on Twitter.
Meanwhile, some voters are looking back longingly on the days of pre-Twitter presidencies. In completely unrelated news, a famous Christian evangelist could really use your prayers as he battles a rare form of cancer.
