Delta Air Lines is being accused of treating Jewish people unfairly. In particular, it is accused of punishing its flight attendants who are Jewish-friendly, according to TMZ.
TMZ reports that four Delta flight attendants in New York, all of them with work experience ranging from ten to forty years, are suing the airline. The former employees all allege a "pattern of intentionally discriminating and retaliating against ethnically Jewish, Hebrew and/or Israeli employees and passengers."
They claim this was especially the case on the slight where they worked, which went from New York City to Israel.
First, Delta is accused of firing a female flight attendant in March 2017 because she was Jewish. The airline claims that it was because she missed a flight, despite the fact that she was granted FMLA leave for a medical emergency. Another flight attendant, although not Jewish, was allegedly fired because she shared her "Travel Companion" pass with a Jewish friend. Delta claims that the woman violated company policy, but she claims she has been friends with the man for over 40 years.
In numerous instances, the airline is being accused of promoting a "hostile" and "intimidating" work environment on the Israel-New York flight.
Fox News reports that a Delta spokesperson has responded to the statement. She claims that Delta strongly condemns the allegations of discrimination described in the suit and will defend itself vigorously against them. The spokesperson also claims that Delta, as a global airline, respects a diversity of values and has no tolerance for discrimination.
“Delta strongly condemns the allegations of discrimination described in this suit and will defend itself vigorously against them," claims the spokesperson, according to Fox News. "As a global airline that brings people across the world together every day, Delta values diversity in all aspects of its business and has zero tolerance for discrimination.”
The four attendants who filed the lawsuit are asking for damages over the alleged illegal discrimination. They are calling the airline to reinstate travel privileges for one reprimanded employee and to hire back one other.
