One of America’s most popular snack foods has just issued a major recall. According to reports, Doritos chips are recalling one of their specific chip flavors.
The specific flavor of chips being recalled is the Doritos Chilli Heatwave crisps. Officials say the snack could potentially cause allergic reactions due to improperly labeled ingredients in the bag.
The chips fail to mention that milk and cheese ingredients are contained inside. Since numerous people have severe allergies to dairy this was a great cause for concern.
“While the packaging does state that the chips are made in a factory which handles milk, the allergen is not declared on the ingredients list and therefore presents an allergen risk for milk,” according to officials.
According to the Daily Mail, the parent company Pepsico has taken the decision to ask for the items to be sent back to them after it was revealed there was no mention of the dairy product on the crisps' packaging.
The company has published a public statement about the error. According to the statement, the Chilli Heatwave flavor was produced in a limited number.
“The affected product contains flavorings which contain milk, cheese powder and milk protein which are not included in the ingredients list. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” read the statement online.
At this time, no injuries or deaths have been reported by people with severe allergic reactions. The bags in question are packs of 150g and 90g with October 7, 2017, as the best before date.
What do you think about this? Do you own any of these bags? Do you like Doritos?
