Debate on abortion rights: Milling treads carefully

Amanda Milling, a foreign minister, responded to a pressing question about the decision of the US Supreme Court to allow states to decide the legality or not of abortions.

Milling told MPs that “the UK is proud to defend and promote universal and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights”.

But Milling didn’t slam the door closed on MPs such as Danny Kruger, who argued that women’s right to abortion is “qualified by the fact that another body is involved”, with Milling telling the House of Commons that if a vote were to happen, it would be up to the “conscience” of MPs.
