Parkland gun control activist David Hogg is in the news again. Recently, by his direction, students and young adults staged die-ins in stores such as Publix, a business which gave money to an NRA-supporting politician. Hogg had called for patrons to boycott them.
Then he went further. In a tweet, Hogg called on Publix to donate $1 Million to the Stoneman Douglas Victims—and to never support an A-rated NRA politician again.
According to The Daily Wire, Publix gave $670,000 to Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam, who is backed by the NRA. But as it turns out, he’s not the only candidate whom Publix has supported.
The truth is, the company has supported Democrats as well. Some $760,000 has been given to such Democrats as Black Congressional Caucus members, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Democratic National Committee chair, and Senators Michael Bennett of Colorado, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, and Ron Wyden of Oregon, to name just a few.
Publix has decided that they will not give money to any candidate anymore, not targeting any one person or political party. But they have made a concerted effort to reach out to victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting.
"While we have not contributed to the GoFundMe account, on April 3, more than 65 Publix associates, including our CEO & President [Todd Jones], spent our Publix Serves Day at Marjory Stoneman Douglas," wrote Publix spokeswoman Nicole Krauss.
"We worked on several projects that were funded by Publix, including an herb/vegetable garden for the culinary program, beautification of common grounds and sodding, and landscaping a new yoga/meditation area for the students," said Krauss.
"We hoped our efforts would help the students find comfort in each other and a peaceful place to reflect and meditate,” she added.
