Almost 35,500 pounds of raw ground beef has been recalled due to a dangerous foreign substance found inside it.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), elements of hard plastic were inside the contaminated beef. Fox 59 confirmed Wednesday that the products were included in Kroger brands.
The beef was shipped to centers in Indiana and Virginia. From there they were distributed to retail locations. The raw ground beef items were produced on March 22, 2018. The USDA mark of inspection bears the establishment number “EST. 34176.”
The recall was issued after a consumer filed a complaint with the FSIS. That person found blue, hard plastic pieces in one of the products.
So far, there have been no confirmed reports of consumers getting injured due to the consumption of the beef. A concern has been raised by the FSIS that the products may still be frozen in consumers’ freezers.
Some of the recalled packages include Kroger brands 1 and 3 lbs. packages of 73% or 80% lean ground beef; or All Natural Laura’s Lean Beef with 92% or 96% lean ground beef.
The FSIS urges consumers who have purchased the products to refrain from consuming them. It recommends that the products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
