One of the most recognizable faces in country music was just busted for a major mistake at an airport checkpoint. According to reports, Scotty McCreery was cited for trying to bring a loaded handgun on an airplane.

Most people recognize and remember McCreery after he rose to fame on the hit reality television series, American Idol. McCreery won the American Idol competition during season 10.

Since winning, he has experienced major success in the music industry. He has also never had any altercations or incidents like the one that just occurred at the airport passenger checkpoint.

The incident took place at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. According to a police report, Scotty stated that he had gone to the shooting range earlier in the day and forgot to remove the loaded weapon and rounds from his backpack before entering the airport.

The report also mentioned that Scotty did have a permit for the concealed weapon. It was a 9mm handgun with ammunition.

While McCreery was legally allowed to carry the gun, all passengers are not allowed to bring a loaded weapon onto the plane. For that, McCreery was cited and released for a misdemeanor violation.

He now has a pending court date in Mississippi. What do you think about this? Do you think it was obviously just a major mistake? Are you a fan of Scotty? To read about another country music couple who is getting divorced after 17 years of marriage, read our article here.
