White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was the center of a national controversy over the weekend. Liberals and conservatives battled out whether the “roasting” remarks about Sanders, made by comedian Michelle Wolf at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, were appropriate or not.
Sanders attended the annual event, which typically includes lighthearted “roasting” of the current president and his cabinet, on behalf of the Trump administration. With Sanders only feet away, Wolf blasted the press secretary in a series of “jokes” that many believe were taken way too far.
In hindsight, Wolf called Sanders a “disappointment to all white women,” accused her of lying regularly in the daily press briefings, and compared her to Aunt Lydia from “The Handmaid’s Tale” — a character who trains women on how to be handmaids. If you missed Wolf’s comments, watch the video below. WARNING: The video does contain some graphic language.
Conservatives were outraged by Wolf’s “jokes.” Many well-known conservative names praised Sanders for the way she handled herself during the roast including Abby Huntsman from Fox News, best-selling author Ed Henry, and Andrea Mitchell from NBC News.
Additionally, Republicans demanded that Wolf apologize to Sanders.
