The men and women in our military deserve all the respect we can give them. They put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our freedoms across the globe.

Sadly, not every veteran gets honored in the ways they deserve. Recently, the family members of a veteran didn't even show up to claim his body in Nashville.

"At the beginning of the week, hardly anybody knew of Marine Corps Sgt. Leo Stokley. The 69-year-old Vietnam veteran passed away, leaving behind no biological family members," reported Western Journal.

When the word got out about the sad incident, the community knew they had to do something amazing for this hero. Patriots from around Nashville gathered to make sure the veteran was honored and loved and had the type of funeral that was worthy of a true American hero.

"The word about the unclaimed veteran spread after Facebook group U.S. Army WTF moments posted a call for attendance online, asking for people to ensure that the hero would not be buried alone," reported Western Journal.

On the day of the funeral, a massive crowd showed up! Even some of Stokley's old caregivers came to pay their final respects to a man who gave so much for his country. This was truly an amazing ending for a man who displayed so much courage and patriotism.

Are you proud of this community for such an awesome show of patriotism and gratitude! We definitely are! Be sure to check out some of our other stories as well!
